Marginalised communities’ perspectives and experiences are often underrepresented, overlooked, or excluded in mainstream literature and cultural discourse. This marginalisation can arise from various factors, including but not limited to:
- Identity: Writers from diverse racial, ethnic, or cultural backgrounds may face marginalisation due to systemic racism or cultural bias.
- Gender: Female writers, LGBTQ+ writers, or those who do not conform to traditional gender norms may be marginalised in mainstream literary circles.
- Class: Writers from lower socioeconomic backgrounds may have restricted access to publishing resources and networks.
- Disability: Authors with disabilities may find their voices and experiences underrepresented in mainstream literature.
- Geographical Context: Writers from regions that are not typically featured in mainstream literary discussions may also be marginalised.
Marginalised writers offer fresh perspectives and often challenge dominant narratives, making their contributions vital for a richer and more inclusive literary landscape. Their work frequently addresses issues of identity, inequality, and social justice, is routinely targeted at mainstream audiences, and as such can serve as a powerful means of advocacy and representation.
At M2M Books, our objective is neither representing nor advocating for marginalised communities so we are not seeking to engage with writing about marginalised communities composed to enlighten mainstream audiences. Our mission is to publish quality fiction, powerful poetry, and insightful nonfiction for marginalised audiences.
At M2M Books, we write for ourselves – Margin to Margin!
